Don’t let the Winter blues get you down! There are still so many things to do in Mitchell even with the crazy weather and freezing temperatures. We might not be spending much time outside, but there are lots of fun events and attractions that offer shelter from the cold and entertainment for these slower months.
Untamed Play
Untamed Play is a locally owned business that is a perfect place for parents to bring their children to play, especially in the winter! It is indoor and offers a creative and open-ended play space for your child. They have lots of children’s activities from an indoor jungle gym to a play supermarket. If you are looking for some warm winter entertainment for your child, Untamed Play is the place to go! This is also the perfect place to host a party for your child who has a winter birthday. Board and Brush
Board and Brush Creative Studio is another locally owned business that offers instructor led classes where you can create your own unique wood designs! These beautiful pieces that YOU create make great decorations for your home. They also have beer and wine to purchase for those who are 21 and older that make this a great destination to warm up and get together with your friends. Logan Luxury 5 Cinema
Who doesn’t love going to the movies in the winter? Nothing can compare to seeing a movie on a big screen, plus, it gives you an excuse to finally get out of the house and eat some delicious movie theater popcorn. Logan Luxury Cinema offers all the newest movies on the silver screen in a comfortable and warm atmosphere. The theater is located at 209 N Lawler Street, and you can find them on Facebook here.
Your Shop
Your Shop is also a locally owned business where you can either purchase handcrafted items or make your own using their tools and equipment. They have 3D printers, crickets, sewing machines, scroll saws and more! They also offer different classes where they show you how to use their equipment or instruct you in a craft, like their crochet group that meets every Wednesday. The World’s Only Corn Palace
The Corn Palace is not just for tourists but offers entertainment to locals in the winter! While it is a gift shop and museum in the summer, in the winter it is a gymnasium. Go watch the Kernels or the Tigers play basketball in the comfort of the soft seats. Don’t forget to buy a delicious and one-of-a-kind popcorn ball while you are there! Outdoor Activities
Bundle up and get outside! If you are itching to spend some time outdoors, throw on some winter layers and head out. There are lots of options for outdoor activities in the winter if you can brave the cold.
2023 Lakota Games on Ice
Coming up on Saturday, January 21, from 1-4pm, the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village will be hosting the 11th Annual Lakota Games on Ice! Learn to play the winter games played by the ancestors of the Lakota. Mike Marshall, Sicangu Lakota, will teach everyone how to play games such as paslohanpi, haka unpi, and many more. Amphitheater Sledding Hill
It wouldn’t be wintertime in Mitchell without sledding at the amphitheater! This hill is the perfect spot to get in your winter adrenaline rush. From young to old, everyone loves racing down the sledding hill. If you ask any local, they will tell you this is the best sledding spot in town. The Amphitheater is located at 3100 Indian Village Road.
Lake Mitchell Trails
The trails that surround Lake Mitchell do not just provide entertainment in the summer months. When the lake is frozen and covered with snow, go take a hike on one of the beautiful trails. They also make great cross-country skiing and winter biking spots. The lake is located on the north side of town, and you can view a map of all the trails here.
