    Director of Human Resources

    Dakota Wesleyan University seeks to hire a Director of Human Resources that will work collaboratively to help the university reach its vision to create and sustain a community in which all are challenged and encouraged to lead lives of meaning and purpose. The Director of Human Resources will play a key role in enhancing employee satisfaction and engagement so that the University can fulfil its mission and vision.

    This position reports directly to the Vice President of Finance and Administration and serves as a key advisor to the President’s Cabinet with regards to human resources policies and practices.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Leads and promotes a positive employee culture by developing, revising, and implementing creative and necessary policies and programs that support and drive the mission of the University while ensuring employee engagement and satisfaction.
    • Manage and facilitate the Employee Engagement Committee for the purpose of developing, recommending, and leading initiatives and programs that promote a high level of employee morale and motivation. We aspire to champion efforts that:

      • Values (and shows appreciation for) the role all employees play in living out the mission and vision thereby moving employees beyond their department, division, or silo.

    • Responsible for overseeing the human resource functions of the University, including the maintenance and management of all employment records and human resource data; administration of all employee benefits, including compensation, wellness, retirement, workers' compensation, leave, unemployment insurance, Tuition Exchange, and other benefits programs or issues.
    • Leads the University’s compliance with all existing governmental and labor legislation while maintaining knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management and employment law.
    • Directs and coordinates with relevant supervisors all aspects of the employee lifecycle from talent recruitment (developing applicant pools through strategic advertisement and initial screening), job descriptions, benefits briefings, hiring, welcoming and announcing new employees, on-boarding, retention, to termination, resignation, and retirement processes.
    • Oversee the annual employee performance appraisal program at the University; Ensure supervisors create, maintain and review accurate job descriptions.
    • Address complex employee relations issues and provides expert guidance to University and department leaders. Oversee investigations into employee complaints, ensuring thoroughness and adherence to university policies. Consults with legal counsel as appropriate on employment and labor relations matters. Serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator and works with the Title IX Coordinator to ensure that faculty and staff receive appropriate training and support.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Degree in Human Resources Management or Development; Organizational Management; Public Administration; Business; or related field, strongly preferred.
    • Ability to maintain human resources records and information systems that follow governmental and university guidelines and that equip university leaders with data to make informed and strategic decisions.
    • Ability to manage operational and personnel budgets that efficiently and effectively allocate resources.
    • Some staff supervisory experience, with strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and excellent writing and oral communication skills.
